Review: Krazzy 4

By Sid • Apr 30th, 2008 • Category: Posts, Reviews

We’ve done it again. We’ve taken a movie from Hollywood and mindlessly copied it, inserted a few songs and then coyly admit to the press that ‘I was inspired by so and so movie’.
Take Krazzy 4. We went to see the movie last weekend. While I was asleep throughout the second half, in all fairness [...]

Adventures with Horses

By Sid • Apr 30th, 2008 • Category: Posts

I recently heard about an event called the NFR or the National Finals Rodeo. Quite interesting stuff – it’s organized by the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association and includes events such as bareback riding, steer wrestling, team roping, saddle bronc riding, tie-down roping, bull riding and barrel racing. Barrel racing, incidentally is only for women.
Ten days [...]

Walnut Cream Soup

By Sid • Apr 28th, 2008 • Category: Posts

This is a simple, tasty soup that serves as a full meal.
First shell your walnuts, pound some roughly and keep a few pieces for the garnish. Chop some onions finely and slice an onion finely. Slice a tomato. In a little butter, saute your chopped onions and some peeled, smashed cloves of garlic. When the [...]

More on Backgammon

By Sid • Apr 28th, 2008 • Category: Posts

The chaps running the online gaming area – BackgammonMasters, have come up with yet another way to make online gaming fun. While they’re already running games such as 21 Blackjack, Poker and Backgammon, they are now planning to bring on the MIT ‘Blackjack Teams’ as a challenge to the integrity and stability of their new [...]

Fried Dough with Syrup

I used to read a lot of Wilbur Smith in the past. In fact, I think I’ve read all of his books twice or more. If you ask me, I think his books are the ‘Mills and Boon’ equivalent for men. Anyway, there was mention of a dish called ‘Koeksisters’ in a few of his [...]

The Foodies Plague - Excess Weight

By Sid • Apr 26th, 2008 • Category: Dinner, Posts

I need to lose weight. At 130 Kgs / 286 lbs / 20.5 stone / 4585.6 ounces, I think it’s time to start thinking. The good part is, I’m not gaining any more. Now, what’s the strategy going to be this time around?
Will it be a diet? Perhaps a month or two of meal [...]

Review: Wok and Talk, Great India Place, NOIDA

By Sid • Apr 24th, 2008 • Category: Asian Food, Dinner, Lunch, Non Vegetarian Food, Oriental Food, Posts, Restaurants In NOIDA, Reviews, Soups, Starters, Vegetarian Food

Wok and Talk is a part of the Spoon Food Court, in the Great India Place, NOIDA. Just like any other food court, you can take in the many aromas wafting around the place, the hubbub of many people talking at once and the occasional loud crash of a strike at the bowling alley ahead.
The [...]

New Contest Site

By Sid • Apr 24th, 2008 • Category: Posts

Every now and then we hear of new gaming and entertainment sites springing up somewhere on the web. Most of them offer games for registered members and perhaps a common score board for high scores etc.
I’ve just come across a site with a difference, who only do online contests.
Instead of just games or simply videos, [...]

Indian Advertising

By Sid • Apr 23rd, 2008 • Category: Posts

Our advertising is getting quite good. Some ads however, are downright ridiculous and yesterday was one day when I had the privilege of watching three of them, nearly consecutively.
Nescafe (Instant Coffee): Bunch of pretty, well dressed girls. They want coffee. Surprise! They don’t have any money. But they do have… yes, you guessed right - [...]

Success and Best Practices

By Sid • Apr 23rd, 2008 • Category: Posts

Whether we like it or not, best practices for most management disciplines have been made based on sound principles and many hundreds of man years of experience. Why then, do many people just not follow them?
I remember this chap from a previous organisation. Brilliant man really… he wrote a bunch of neural network wrappers for [...]
