Review: Krazzy 4

By Sid • Apr 30th, 2008 • Category: Posts, Reviews

We’ve done it again. We’ve taken a movie from Hollywood and mindlessly copied it, inserted a few songs and then coyly admit to the press that ‘I was inspired by so and so movie’.
Take Krazzy 4. We went to see the movie last weekend. While I was asleep throughout the second half, in all fairness [...]

Walnut Cream Soup

By Sid • Apr 28th, 2008 • Category: Posts

This is a simple, tasty soup that serves as a full meal.
First shell your walnuts, pound some roughly and keep a few pieces for the garnish. Chop some onions finely and slice an onion finely. Slice a tomato. In a little butter, saute your chopped onions and some peeled, smashed cloves of garlic. When the [...]

Fried Dough with Syrup

By Sid • Apr 26th, 2008 • Category: Cooking For Kids, Desserts, Posts, Vegetarian Food

I used to read a lot of Wilbur Smith in the past. In fact, I think I’ve read all of his books twice or more. If you ask me, I think his books are the ‘Mills and Boon’ equivalent for men. Anyway, there was mention of a dish called ‘Koeksisters’ in a few of his [...]

Review: Wok and Talk, Great India Place, NOIDA

By Sid • Apr 24th, 2008 • Category: Asian Food, Restaurants In NOIDA, Reviews

Wok and Talk is a part of the Spoon Food Court, in the Great India Place, NOIDA. Just like any other food court, you can take in the many aromas wafting around the place, the hubbub of many people talking at once and the occasional loud crash of a strike at the bowling alley ahead.
The [...]

Indian Advertising

By Sid • Apr 23rd, 2008 • Category: Posts

Our advertising is getting quite good. Some ads however, are downright ridiculous and yesterday was one day when I had the privilege of watching three of them, nearly consecutively.
Nescafe (Instant Coffee): Bunch of pretty, well dressed girls. They want coffee. Surprise! They don’t have any money. But they do have… yes, you guessed right - [...]

Kebab Curry Noodles

By Sid • Apr 22nd, 2008 • Category: Asian Food, Fusion Food, Non Vegetarian Food, Oriental Food, Posts

I found these freshly made noodles in the market yesterday. All you need to cook them is a couple of minutes in salted, boiling water. So, I tried this recipe out, which resulted in a spicy combination of curry, noodles, kebabs and coconut.
First, boil your noodles, chop the kebabs and onions and squeeze out the [...]

So, you like salads?

By Sid • Apr 16th, 2008 • Category: Posts

Like the title says, most of us like salads in some form or another. No red blooded Punjabi would be caught eating mutton curry or any other meal without sliced onions, fresh breath be damned. Then we have those crisp crunchy salads in restaurants, dressed with yummy thousand island or perhaps a mayonnaise concoction.
Love them, [...]

Review: The Fortune Cookie, Sector 18, NOIDA

By Sid • Apr 13th, 2008 • Category: Asian Food, Restaurants In NOIDA, Reviews

Meeting with some long lost friends, their parents, their children and so on, we landed up at Fortune Cookie on Friday night.
It’s a nice place really - the owner is an ex-shippie who has ransacked his house and placed all his collected oriental artifacts in the restaurant. Decorated with an overpowering shade of red, The [...]

Review: Superstars, Sector 18, NOIDA

By Sid • Apr 11th, 2008 • Category: Restaurants In NOIDA, Reviews

I went for lunch today to Superstars in Sector 18, NOIDA with an old friend, who I was meeting after nearly 14 years.
They haven’t spared any expense in doing up the place and have probably paid a pretty penny for the decor. A pool table, glass floors, huge bar, a music system that can be [...]

Pepper Tuna with Tomatoes

By Sid • Apr 8th, 2008 • Category: Fusion Food, Italian Food, Non Vegetarian Food, Posts

Watching a travel program this evening motivated me to run into the kitchen and start doing *something*, not knowing exactly what I was going to end up with.
I started by cutting a few slices off a gourd and sauteing them in a little olive oil. Next came the tuna, which was steamed, shredded, seasoned with [...]
