We met up here for lunch with brother and wives [Indu, Navnita]. Located in the India Habitat Centre on Lodhi road, The All American Diner is a good choice for the odd meal.
The very first point in the experience is the people at the gate of IHC. Very polite and helpful, it is a good [...]

Vermicelli with Mustard and Curry Leaves

By Sid • Mar 5th, 2008 • Category: Asian Food, Breakfast, Indian Food, Posts, Vegetarian Food

Vermicelli is a popular breakfast food in South India. Cooked in sesame oil with chopped onions turmeric, salt, chilli, black mustard seeds and curry leaves, it tastes wonderful. Even better if you have a little mullagapudi - a hot concoction of spices that is mixed with oil and used as a condiment. Also called ‘gunpowder’ [...]

Here’s a contribution from my mother:
There’s nothing more invigorating than a hearty breakfast. There was a time when breakfasts in my mother’s home were huge and wholesome. Fried, poached or boiled eggs, thick slices of toast, butter, marmalade, chutney, rashers of bacon, fried tomatoes and thick slices of roast potatoes and that wasn’t all! There [...]

How to Poach an Egg

By Sid • Feb 20th, 2008 • Category: American Food, Breakfast, British Food, Non Vegetarian Food, Posts

Apparently, I’ve been doing it wrong all along!
Stuck with the problem of poaching the perfect egg, I’ve been trying to get something close to acceptable for a while. More often than not however, I would end up with thready and tattered whites. Not acceptable!
After doing a bit of reading and some experimenting, here’s the consistent [...]

Sandwich Omelette

By Sid • Feb 5th, 2008 • Category: American Food, Breakfast, British Food, French Food, Fusion Food, Indian Food, Non Vegetarian Food, Posts, Snacks

This is in continuation to my previous post on Spicy Minced Meat. That was the stuffing.
The Sandwich Omelette can probably be compared to the Chinese stuffed bun, but this one is easier and quicker. It has an outer covering of a thin omelette, inside which is are two slices of fresh white bread, inside which [...]

Kufri or Bust Part II

By Sid • Jan 28th, 2008 • Category: Breakfast, Non Vegetarian Food, Posts

We started for our uphill destination in the wee hours of the morning. The first 30 minutes were spent locating suitable equipment. Any technophile worth his usb micro drive will know what I speak of - laptop, blue ray disc to watch at various intervals on the way, an array of usb cables for different [...]

By Sid • Jan 22nd, 2008 • Category: American Food, Asian Food, Breakfast, British Food, Fast Food, French Food, Fusion Food, Indian Food, Italian Food, Non Vegetarian Food, Posts, Starters

I was trying to be creative this morning with the fresh thyme in my possession - the usual target - Cherie’s breakfast.
Try this. Put a little oil in the pan - spread it around a bit. Put small bunch of leaves at various places in the oil - break the egg into a bowl and [...]

French Toast Breakfast

By Sid • Nov 10th, 2007 • Category: American Food, Breakfast, British Food, Non Vegetarian Food

Made this for Cherie’s breakfast this morning. Simple, fast and tasty. Another variation could be spreading the egg on only one side, frying it, then spreading some cheese and onions on the egg side, covering it with another toast, egg side inside and grilling in a sandwich toaster.

6 slices of bread
1 egg beaten
2 tbsp milk
Salt [...]
