Sandwich Omelette

By Sid • Feb 5th, 2008 • Category: American Food, British Food, French Food, Fusion Food, Indian Food, Non Vegetarian Food, Posts, Snacks

This is in continuation to my previous post on Spicy Minced Meat. That was the stuffing.
The Sandwich Omelette can probably be compared to the Chinese stuffed bun, but this one is easier and quicker. It has an outer covering of a thin omelette, inside which is are two slices of fresh white bread, inside which [...]

Spicy Minced Meat (Keema)

By Sid • Feb 2nd, 2008 • Category: American Food, Asian Food, British Food, Fusion Food, Indian Food, Non Vegetarian Food

This is a spicy, juicy and tangy dish that can be used to stuff your samosas, filo pastry / puff pastry parcels, sandwiches or simply eaten with hot rotis/naans.
My brother dropped in last night and sleepily expressed a desire this morning, to eat a stuffed omelette. Now, stuffed omelettes are quite passè for me, considering [...]

Kufri or Bust Part III

By Sid • Jan 29th, 2008 • Category: Asian Food, British Food, Indian Food, Non Vegetarian Food, Posts, Reviews, Vegetarian Food

Lunch was at a restaurant in Shimla called ‘Alpha’. Started in 1961 by Surendra Paul Bamba and located at Scandal Point, it boasts multiple cuisines and smoking/non-smoking seating areas.
Did you know that Scandal Point derives its name from an incident connected to the flirtatious Maharaja of Patiala? As the story goes, The Maharaja was besotted [...]

Republic Day Eggs

By Sid • Jan 27th, 2008 • Category: American Food, British Food, Dips & Sauces, French Food, Fusion Food, Non Vegetarian Food, Posts, Starters

Funny name for eggs, I know. Thing is, firstly, I made them on [a day after actually] Republic Day. Secondly, and this is stretching it a bit, these eggs are free from the traditional bondage/dominion of buttered toast. If you believed that, good! If you didn’t, actually, I couldn’t think of any other name for [...]

Fried Eggs with Thyme

By Sid • Jan 22nd, 2008 • Category: American Food, Asian Food, British Food, Fast Food, French Food, Fusion Food, Indian Food, Italian Food, Non Vegetarian Food, Posts, Starters

I was trying to be creative this morning with the fresh thyme in my possession - the usual target - Cherie’s breakfast.
Try this. Put a little oil in the pan - spread it around a bit. Put small bunch of leaves at various places in the oil - break the egg into a bowl and [...]

Thyme

By Sid • Jan 22nd, 2008 • Category: American Food, British Food, French Food, Fusion Food, Italian Food, Non Vegetarian Food, Posts, Vegetarian Food

Naheed happened to visit the okhla vegetable bazaar a few days back and was nice enough to bring back some fresh thyme for me.
Thyme is used most widely in cooking. Thyme is a basic ingredient in Spanish, French, Italian, and Turkish cuisines, and in those derived from them. It is also widely used in Lebanese [...]

Tender, Tender Chicken for Soups

By Sid • Jan 21st, 2008 • Category: American Food, Asian Food, British Food, Italian Food, Non Vegetarian Food, Oriental Food, Soups

Ever eaten chicken soup in a restaurant and wondered how they get the boneless chicken in it to be so tender? I mean, chicken on the bone is usually quite alright, but boneless chicken is typically the breast, which is very lean and therefore, not as tender as say, the leg.
Try this. Slice the boneless [...]

Review: Bhiwadi Gymkhana

By Sid • Nov 28th, 2007 • Category: British Food, Desserts, French Food, Fusion Food, Italian Food, Non Vegetarian Food, Posts, Reviews, Starters, Vegetarian Food

We dined at a restaurant in the Bhiwadi Gymkhana a short while back. It is a spanking new place with clean, simple decor and good, friendly service. The presence of Manu, the man behind the efficient running of the entire complex, did make a difference to the experience. Our dinner menu comprised minestrone soup [...]

Pepper Tuna Au Gratin

By Sid • Nov 11th, 2007 • Category: British Food, French Food, Non Vegetarian Food

On the first day of the weekend, I feel like unwinding with a drink and a simple hot meal. We were out of chicken and I found some fresh (frozen a day previously) Tuna in the freezer. About 20 minutes of active cooking (excluding baking and preparation time) make this a very convenient meal. Did [...]

French Toast Breakfast

By Sid • Nov 10th, 2007 • Category: American Food, British Food, Non Vegetarian Food

Made this for Cherie’s breakfast this morning. Simple, fast and tasty. Another variation could be spreading the egg on only one side, frying it, then spreading some cheese and onions on the egg side, covering it with another toast, egg side inside and grilling in a sandwich toaster.

6 slices of bread
1 egg beaten
2 tbsp milk
Salt [...]
