Leftover Croquettes

By Sid • Jul 17th, 2008 • Category: Cooking For Kids, Fusion Food, Leftover Ideas, Snacks, Vegetarian Food

We had a dinner guest last evening and like all such occasions, there were a few left overs. Rather than leave the stuff in the fridge till it starts evolving into a different life form, I thought I’d use some of it for breakfast.
Boiled and mashed some potatoes, added a dash of mustard, paprika and [...]

Spicy Crunchy Pakodas

By Sid • May 26th, 2008 • Category: Asian Food, Cooking For Kids, Fast Food, Indian Food, Posts, Snacks, Vegetarian Food

We had these crunchy, spicy pakodas for lunch yesterday.
While not usually lunch material, they provided a nice change as pakodas are normally snack food in India. One of the most common times they’re made is when it’s raining outside. Most houses will then deep fry this delicious snack and the whole family consumes copious quantities [...]

By Sid • Apr 13th, 2008 • Category: Asian Food, Deserts, Lunch, Non Vegetarian Food, Oriental Food, Posts, Restaurants In NOIDA, Reviews, Salads, Snacks, Soups, Starters, Vegetarian Food

Meeting with some long lost friends, their parents, their children and so on, we landed up at Fortune Cookie on Friday night.
It’s a nice place really - the owner is an ex-shippie who has ransacked his house and placed all his collected oriental artifacts in the restaurant. Decorated with an overpowering shade of red, The [...]

Pan Haggerty

By Sid • Apr 7th, 2008 • Category: British Food, Cooking For Kids, Lunch, Non Vegetarian Food, Posts, Snacks, Vegetarian Food

Pan Haggerty is a delicious and simple to make dish. I wouldn’t say its quick, but your kids will love it. My wife ended up scraping the pan, so I’m pretty sure it appeals to children. (I hope she’s not reading this).
Oil a pan, put a layer of sliced potatoes, then a layer of sliced [...]

Flluid is in the Mosaic Hotel and is probably one of the most interesting lounge bars in the area. They have an adequate selection of food and quite an array of liquors. In fact, Flluid probably has the best stocked bar in NOIDA!
On entering you feel you’ve stepped into some location in the Arctic or [...]

Review: Republic of China, Great India Place, NOIDA

By Sid • Apr 3rd, 2008 • Category: Asian Food, Dinner, Fast Food, Lunch, Non Vegetarian Food, Oriental Food, Posts, Restaurants In NOIDA, Reviews, Snacks, Soups, Starters, Vegetarian Food

Republic of China is a part of the Spoon Food Court, in the Great India Place, NOIDA. The standard food court ambience applies here with lots of places to sit, television screens in abundance and the pleasant murmur of many conversations happening at once.
There aren’t many options available, and they don’t seem to want [...]

By Sid • Apr 2nd, 2008 • Category: American Food, Breakfast, Deserts, Dinner, Fast Food, Lunch, Non Vegetarian Food, Posts, Restaurants in Delhi, Reviews, Salads, Snacks, Soups, Starters, Vegetarian Food

We met up here for lunch with brother and wives [Indu, Navnita]. Located in the India Habitat Centre on Lodhi road, The All American Diner is a good choice for the odd meal.
The very first point in the experience is the people at the gate of IHC. Very polite and helpful, it is a good [...]

Loaded Mushrooms

By Sid • Feb 28th, 2008 • Category: Asian Food, Dinner, Dips & Sauces, Fusion Food, Lunch, Non Vegetarian Food, Oriental Food, Posts, Snacks, Starters, Vegetarian Food

These are fresh button buttons, de-stalked and lightly sauteed in sesame oil - then stuffed with a spicy mixture of mushrooms, chicken and peanuts.
First de-stalk the mushrooms and then quickly stir fry them in some hot sesame oil - remember to use very little oil. Set aside.
Now for the filling. Finely puree some wood ear [...]

By Sid • Feb 17th, 2008 • Category: Asian Food, Dinner, Dips & Sauces, Fusion Food, Lunch, Oriental Food, Snacks, Starters, Vegetarian Food

These creamy, crunchy and delicious spring rolls are light, crisp and quite simple to make. We had a few friends over for lunch and thought the kids would like them. The adults loved them too!
First the filling - thinly slice some cabbage, mix with tartar sauce, corn kernels, five spice powder, tabasco, salt and worcestershire [...]

Achappam

By Sid • Feb 11th, 2008 • Category: Asian Food, Indian Food, Non Vegetarian Food, Ready to Eat Food, Snacks, Vegetarian Food

The Achappam is a traditional snack prevalent in Kerala. Prowling through the inside streets of INA market yesterday, I found this little shop [Kerala Store, Shop #56] run by the Wilson brothers.
A crunchy, mildly sweet and very light snack, the achappam is easy to make too - all it needs is rice powder, milk, eggs, [...]
