My New Camera
By Sid • Mar 25th, 2008 • Category: PostsHello All,
I’ve just bought a new camera and I can’t stop grinning, looking at it every few minutes and occasionally patting it. Seriously, when I look at it, I smile. How much lower can you sink than that. Much lower I say… lets see what symptoms I exhibit over the next few days.
Its an SLR - Nikon D40x with a 10 mega pixel sensor. I also picked up two lenses - the 18 - 55mm lens and a 55 - 200mm lens. I can’t believe how much improvement it has brought in a day to the general look of my photos. I’ll also add, it is a bit more difficult to use than my previous Canon G7 and I need to get a bit more clued up on the technicalities of photography.
Lets see how my next food shot turns out. I’m thinking of getting into layouts rather than food close ups - lets see.

Really, has it been a lonnnnng time since i last wrote to you?
Man! somthins’ wrong with my memory, but i guess i wrote to you last week, in one or 2 of your old articles!!!
GOD DAMMIT! You wrote about AAD before I could visit it. Last time i went to AAD, there was quite a lonnnnnggg waiting time and yes it was LUNCH! ;[GGGRRRRR……….
BTW! How much did u buy ‘SIR’, NIKON D40x for???
Last week is a long time ago isn’t it?
What does ‘SIR’ stand for?
I bought the Nikon D40x body + 1 55-200mm Nikkor lens + Filter + Bag for INR 50,000.
Why? Do you like photography too?
SIR stands for RESPECT for NIKON SLRs.
Yes I do like photography.
BTW, u said in your article ‘My new camera’, that u bought NIKON D40x with 18 - 55mm lens and a 55 - 200mm lens.
But, in your post to my reply u said, "I bought the Nikon D40x body + 1 55-200mm Nikkor lens + Filter + Bag for INR 50,000."
So, is it 1 or 2 lens?
Can you give me a breakup of what individual parts cost you what and did u buy it online or from a Showroom(i.e. with Bill)?
Great.
The 18-55mm lens is an additional 9,500.
Breakup:
1. Camera body: 33,000
2. 55-200 VR Lens: 15,000
3. Lens Filter: 400
4. Bag: 1,500
I bought it from Mahatta in CP. Mistake. Its more expensive there. If you’re thinking of buying one, let me know - I know a place where I’m going to buy my future lenses and where you can pick up stuff for a good price.

Okay!
Phew!
So! How much research did you do, for this camera before buying it?
Coz, U could have got THE NIKON D40x Body + 18-55mm lens for ONLY SUB-25K and could throw in a 1GB card too. MINUS the BILL.
If mahatta, gave u this cam with 3months seller warranty, then I’m afraid to say U R BADLY RIPPED!!!
BTW! Mahattas are theifs, rippers and assholes!
I can, tell u an incident, after which you would never wanna take ur camera to mahatta if therez any problem with it!
Plus therez more…
Research: 8 - 10 hours I guess.
Price: Yes, I know I’ve overpaid. Two reasons: I wanted it NOW and people who keep the camera in stock, sell it for what they paid for it, like Mahatta - they’ve sold it at the MRP. Secondly, I wanted it with bill and company warranty.
Warranty: I have a 2 year warranty.
Incident: Tell me, soon! :-)
Well, good if u think you have bought it for right price and right place.

But, IF I were to buy even and money was not the constrain, then I would have gone for a Grey Market or w/o bill piece. At least, I wont have to worry about parts replacement and/or service charges, incase of any breakage or accidental mishandling.
I would go for a Grey market, Nikon D40x for 25k with 18-55mm lens included OR would have got Nikon D80 Body for 45K with ”18-135mm" lens, only a walking distance from Mahatta to Palika Bazaar for half the price and they too have the stock ready anytime. My friend bought D80, 6 months back. He say even using a FILM SLR for more than a year, he still doesn’t know how to use his D80 properly.
As for incident, one of my colleague in the last company, had bought a Sony OR Canon(Don’t remember exactly) Digital camera from Mahatta at CP.
There was some problem with the camera within few weeks. It was purchased with bill, that means, the company would have serviced or replaced the camera. Instead, he later came to know the one of the staff member at Mahatta tried to repair the camera on his own. The company seal was tampered and the person who did it also foolishly accepted doing it on his own.
Then, the issue was raised with the company and report against, Mahatta was field with the camera company.
And there are more, stories but wot the heck, it would only bother you or perhaps not. Coz, their shop will keep running like this. I’m not against Mahatta, Kya karen Dilliwale tabhi to badnaam hain.
All I can say to you for now is, Enjoy your New DSLR as much as u can and we’ll get to see those tasty diches of your as close as real!
Very true - I’m just about getting used to this camera and it’s photos are definitely an improvement over my previous camera.
