The Evolving Internet
By Sid • Mar 25th, 2008 • Category: PostsThe Internet has opened up so many different ways of making money, that there’s a little economy out there. Seriously, have you thought about the number of ways people make a living off the Internet? We have online stores, consulting, blogging, advertisements and content writing among others. And of course, the massive site-economies that support the global offshoring business present at sites like odesk and elance.
Quite interesting isn’t it? A decade back it was good for email and browsing. Now the scope is unlimited. The good thing out of all this is that internet and broadband providers have increased in number and their services are improving exponentially. Costs are coming down too! I use a 256kbps unlimited upload/download broadband connection at home, which suits me fine for all purposes. I’m paying about $25 a month, which isn’t bad I think. I’m sure there are lower rates out there, considering the number of service providers, which includes Hughesnet, which provides satellite internet services.
It used to be hugely expensive earlier, with higher prices for "TCPIP" accounts and lower prices for bare-bones shell accounts and now there are even some providers who provide free Internet - neat!
