Minestrone Soup

By Sid • Jun 10th, 2008 • Category: British Food, Posts

As with most of her cooking, this soup is hearty, nutritious, healthy and filling.
No fat people in Zainab’s house - everyone here is fit and healthy, in stark contrast to my portly self. Definitely the cooking!
This soup is no exception. Filling and nutritious, it uses onions, tomatoes, leeks, carrots and green cabbage for the body. [...]

Penne with Tomato and Coriander Sauce

By Sid • Jun 10th, 2008 • Category: Italian Food, Posts

If its one thing Zainab doesn’t like saving time on, it’s her sauces. This sauce was simmered for 3 hours before it was pronounced fit for human consumption.
This sauce used Vine tomatoes as the base, which impart a nicer flavor than the usual variety. Also include was plenty of garlic, some carrots, celery and a [...]

Red Onion and Mushroom Pizza

By Sid • Jun 10th, 2008 • Category: Italian Food, Posts

Another one of Zainab’s recipes (as are nearly all my posts in the last 3 weeks), this pizza combines the flavor of red onions and tomatoes.
Red onions are stronger than the normal white or yellow onions that we usually use and have a slightly different flavor as well. I don’t know why they’re called ‘red’ [...]

I’ve tried cooking here and nearly always wind up with disastrous results. The problem is that when you’re not in your own kitchen, you almost never have the ‘right’ implements or spices and there are so many stuffed in various nooks and crannies of [...]

Noodles with Kidney Beans

By Sid • May 25th, 2008 • Category: Fusion Food, Oriental Food, Posts, Vegetarian Food

An expert at rustling up healthy and delicious food, this is another one of Zainab’s creations.
Onion, garlic and bell peppers lightly fried, tossed with boiled noodles and kidney beans, then seasoned with soy sauce and served hot.
Simple isn’t it? It tasted good too!

Prawn Salad

By Sid • May 24th, 2008 • Category: Featured Articles

Today’s dinner was quite interesting - with a multitude of dishes, all cooked by Zainab. There was chicken korma, kebabs, dal, rice, okra, but the star of the evening was a crunchy and nutritious prawn salad, that could quite honestly be described as truly divine.
In Zainab’s words: “Simply toss pre-cooked prawns rocket, spinach, and watercress [...]
